Fayoum has been home to people for thousands of years and became one of the world’s earliest farming centers near Lake Qaroun, Egypt’s largest saltwater lake. Today it remains a fertile oasis known for citrus, olives, nuts, and vegetables.
Depart Cairo for Fayoum Oasis (100 kilometers/62 miles) and enjoy a full day of nature, scenery, and local culture before returning to Cairo.What you will experience
- Tunis Village: a creative village known for its pottery tradition, revived by an Egyptian poet and his Swiss wife who established a pottery workshop and encouraged ecotourism.
- Wadi El Rayan: a desert valley where waterfalls and tree-lined pools break the arid landscape.
- Karanis: a major Greco-Roman city site in Fayoum founded by the Ptolemies in the 3rd century BC; remains include temples dedicated to Sobek and a Roman bath.
